Air-Storm Vacuum Cleaner Review

No vacuum cleaner is perfect. Almost every vacuum cleaner has design flaws that create problems. Maybe the biggest problem is that, as the filter bag fills with dirt, there is less airflow and suction. This problem is even shown in bagless vacuums because the filters clog up as the container fills with dirt, dust, and pet hair.

hepa filter vacuum

The worst feature that most vacuum cleaners have that they have bags that eventually clog up and restrict air flow. All bags and filters are porous. All bags, cloth or paper, have tiny air holes that allow the air to flow through them. When there is a dirt particle larger than the air hole, the particle clogs the hoe and restricts the free flowing of air. Eventually the entire surface of the bag or filter is coated with this dust. The airflow is slowed dramatically, and that is why your vacuum cleaner loses suction as the bag or filter clogs up.

Hepa

That restricted air flow is what causes motors to overheat. The Air-Storm vacuum cleaner has an airflow system that constantly keeps the bag surface clean, allowing for constant airflow and no loss of suction. As the air is pulled into the bag chamber, the angle of the airflow actually blasts the back of the bag clean, allowing unrestricted air to reach the motor and flow out the exhaust. The Air-Storm vacuum cleaner casing is made out of a near indestructible resin material that will never warp when heated.

The metal motor in the Air-Storm is a pleasant surprise. Metal is more durable than plastic, and is a conductor of heat. As the heat is generated in the motor, it is dissipated away from the inside of the motor. This keeps the bearings from drying out. Metal motors are far more durable than plastic motors. Most vacuums made, and all that you buy in discount stores have plastic motors.

Remember that Hoover vacuum your grandmother had for 50 years? It lasted because it had a metal motor and metal parts. Most vacuum cleaners are no longer made as well.

The Air-Storm cleaning system also has two HEPA filters that prevent any dust from escaping the exhaust. One of the HEPA filters is optional, and isn't included in the standard package.

The Air-Storm tools have air holes drilled in the, called "venturi air vents" that allow for constant airflow at the tools. This is especially useful if your upholstery is coated with Scotchguard. If your tools shut of the airflow, you won't be able to pick up any dirt at the tool. Other vacuum cleaners also have similar air vents at the tools; Riccar, Tri-Star, and Carpet Pro also use some form of air vets at the tools.

The Air-Storm vacuum cleaner is American made in California, and it's the most well designed vacuum cleaner we have seen. My only complaint is that the Carpet tool, or power nozzle (as it is called) is from a manufacturer that has parts unavailable to most retailers. At ,895 retail, it's not cheap, but. The Air-Storm gets our recommendation.

I have seen the Air-Storm sold for less online, but a local dealer would be able to provide service far more easily than an internet seller. You always want to buy from an authorized dealer to guarantee warranty service will be provided.

Things to Consider When Buying a HEPA Vacuum Cleaner

The vacuum cleaner market in the USA is huge with over 2 billion dollars per year spent by consumers. Almost every household has a vacuum cleaner and many households have more than one. However, consumers need to give careful consideration to the kind of vacuum they buy, especially if they suffer from asthma or allergies. A vacuum with HEPA filtration will help remove allergens from the air and create a healthier environment for those in the household.

hepa air purifier

HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air and it is a particularly high level of air filtration. HEPA filtration has had longstanding use in the biomedical industry and (in conjunction with UV) helps to inhibit the spread of mold spores as well as airborne bacteria and viruses. It has also found practical uses in the aerospace, semiconductor, food, nuclear and pharmacological industries. HEPA filtration removes 99.97% of all particles in the air with a diameter of 0.3 microns or larger. In the case of a typical household this will include dust, pet dander, dust mite feces, pollens and other allergens. So a vacuum with HEPA filtration should exhaust much cleaner air than one without.

Hepa

However not all HEPA vacuum cleaners are created equal. Many vacuum cleaners advertise their HEPA filter feature but do little to ensure that the air sucked into the vacuum is passed through the filter. If a vacuum is not properly sealed it will allow leakage around the filter and/or leakage to the outside air prior to the filter. Some manufacturers, like Miele, provide a "sealed system" vacuum cleaner that ensures all of the air sucked into the machine is forced through the HEPA filter. This approach produces very high quality exhaust air from the vacuum. Tests have shown that sealed system vacuums typically produce better quality exhaust air than those that don't have a sealed system.

One can also find HEPA filtration in many vacuums certified as asthma and allergy friendly. For example, many of the Dyson vacuum cleaner models have certification from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (in conjunction with Allergy Standards Limited) launched the Asthma and Allergy Friendly Certification Program in 2006. The certification involves independent testing in accredited laboratories and ensures that the certified product is suitable for those with asthma or allergies. In the case of Dyson all the accredited vacuums use HEPA filtration.

Before buying a HEPA capable vacuum it is also important to check the longevity of the filter and the cost of replacing it. The lifespan of some filters can be extended via filter washing but only certain kinds of HEPA filters are washable. Many HEPA filters simply have to be replaced, often every 6 to 12 months depending on the amount of vacuuming. Also some HEPA filters can be pricey so it is a good idea to check the costs for the specific filter that fits your machine. You don't want to have to buy expensive filters frequently.

If you have pets you may wish to use a HEPA filter that comes with activated carbon. These are available for some vacuum models but not for others. Activated carbon is usually made from basic charcoal but it is extremely porous and has an incredibly large surface area that helps it trap odors. Filters with activated carbon leave the air smelling clean after vacuuming.

How to Choose the Best Central Vacuum Cleaner

If you're looking for the best central vacuum cleaner, then you first need to understand what to look for. A central vacuum system isn't some clunky piece of equipment you have to drag from room to room. Instead, you use a small attachment that connects to an area in your walls. What you vacuum up is sent through a series of PVC pipes behind your walls and collected for convenient disposal. While most of these systems are fine, choosing the best central vacuum system can be a challenge.

Before starting the research for the best model, we need to look at the factors that determine which are the best. One of those factors is known as "waterlift." This term refers to the suction power of the unit. Obviously, if the system doesn't have enough suction then you're not going to get the results you want. Generally, if you have up to a 2500 square feet home, your central vacuum should have a "waterlift" capacity of 105 to 120 inches.

Hepa

Another critical factor in determining the best central vacuum system is the price. Although having this type of system installed in our homes can be convenient, it does come with a hefty price tag. For the materials alone, you should expect to be charged between 0 and 00. Installation costs are, of course, separate.

You also want to look at the other features of the system. For example, top central vacuum systems come with attachments and other accessories to help you clean a wide variety of surface areas easily. If the system doesn't include them, then they should at least be available for purchase. You also want to look for features such as HEPA filters which improve the air quality in your home.

Finally, you should always make sure the system you choose is covered with a warranty. Make sure you understand what the warranty covers and how long it lasts. So let's take a look at which systems could deserve the title of the "best central vacuum system"...

Hoover Central Vacuum S5604

This Hoover vacuum cleaner is a perfect example of everything we've talked about in terms of the best model. For example, the Hoover's waterlift rating is a whopping 136 inches. That gives you enough suction to clean a substantial sized home. According to the company, the system can clean up to 8,000 square feet. The unit also comes with a wide range of extras, including an installation kit, a connection kit (with two to choose from), and more. Plus, you can purchase additional accessories such as the VacPan which is useful if you have a large number of hardwood floors to clean.

The Hoover also comes with a five year warranty on the motor and a one year warranty on parts and labor. Finally, you have to consider the price. This central vacuum sells for just under 0 on the site and shipping is free.

Beam Serenity IQS

Another one of the best central vacuum systems on the market is the Beam Serenity from Electrolux. This product comes in two models. One has a waterlift capacity of 137 inches; the other can reach 140 inches.

The systems come with lots of choices, too. You can pick your own "Power Team" which refers to the hose and actual vacuum portion - the part you'll use to do all of your cleaning. HEPA filter systems are also available at an additional price. More than a dozen other accessories are also available for purchase, including extended hoses and pet grooming tools.

One drawback is that the warranty is a bit confusing. Part of the system is under warranty for as long as you own your home. Other parts have warranties of between 7 to 10 years.

NuTone Model VX1000

The NuTone VX1000 system has a water lift capacity of 130 inches which is sufficient to clean most homes. The product comes with a number of extras, too. For example, it comes with a six foot long power cord for the user's convenience. The system also has a light that senses with the bag is full and alerts you that it needs to be changed. It was also specially designed to be very quiet.

The power unit is covered by an 8 year warranty. Other accessories are available, including a power brush and tool kits for self-installation.

Bissell Vacuum Cleaner Always Makes a Good Pet Vacuum

Investing in a Bissell vacuum would be a good choice based upon their reputation and feedback from current Bissell owners. One Bissell vacuum designed for pet owners is the Bissell 3920 which is also known as the Pet Hair Eraser.

This vacuum can be purchased at most major retailers for under 0. It has been ergonomically designed so that it is easy to operate and maneuver around your home. It has a generous 35 foot cord and comes with an extension wand and stretch hose for those hard to reach places. This Bissell vacuum has dual cyclonic action and is perfect for use on bare floors, carpets, stairs, and furniture. There is a handy indicator light that tells you when you need to change the filter. This can be a bagless, upright pet vacuum that comes with an upholstery tool, crevice tool, pet turbobrush and a special animal hair lifter for removing stubborn hairs.

A bagless pet vacuum is convenient since you do not have to buy and change vacuum bags all of the time. The debris is collected into a clear container to help you see what you have collected and remove anything swept up accidentally. The cyclonic action not only creates a more powerful suction, it also helps keep the filters cleaner longer so performance does not suffer.

The Bissell vacuum cleaner uses a HEPA filter that traps 99.9% of allergens and pet dander. This pet vacuum utilizes special technology that grabs onto pet hair to loosen it so it is ready to be suctioned up. The turbobrush attracts animal hairs that makes it perfect to use on beds and furniture where your pets sit and sleep.

Bissell Lift Off

Is a more powerful pet vacuum that costs around 0. This is an upright vacuum cleaner which has a detachable canister so you can use it for hard to reach spaces and stairs. This pet vacuum has a powerful bristle brush for removing pet hair from carpets that can be turned off when cleaning bare floors. The canister can be taken off to reach places where your pets sleep. It can also be carried out to clean your car upholstery. It utilizes rotating brushes covered with rubber fingers that attract and grab pet hairs. This can be a bagless vacuum cleaner that incorporates a HEPA filter to cut down on allergens in your home.

If you have a pet in your home, you will get rid of pet hair and dander with a Bissell vacuum designed for removing pet hair. There is no need to let pet hairs build up and cover your furniture and clothing. Traditional vacuums are not all that great at removing pet hairs. To find the best results, you should shop for a pet vacuum that has special bristles for grabbing onto pet hairs and a motor that is powerful enough to pull the hairs from the bristles.

Pets also leave dander around your home which can trigger allergens in some people so choosing a vacuum with a HEPA filter is a good idea if you have pets.

Hoover Elite Rewind Upright Bagless U5507900 Vacuum Cleaner Review

The Hoover Elite Rewind Upright Bagless U5507900 is a bagless design vacuum cleaner with an E-Z Empty Bottom Release Dirt Cup and a lifetime HEPA filter. The 24' power cord is retractable which deletes the need to manually wind up the cord after each use. There are 7 height adjustments, headlight, and an air flow indicator that signals when the dirt cup is full and the filter needs to be cleaned. In addition, this model also includes an on-board tool kit that includes a long crevice wand, a combination dusting brush and upholstery tool and a deluxe stretch hose capable of a 9' extended release for cleaning hard-to-reach areas. Selling for under 0 dollars, this vacuum cleaner seems like a good value, especially with an included 1-year warranty.

hepa air purifier

The Hoover Elite Rewind Upright Bagless U5507900 is an impressive-looking machine with a strong-appearing design and a bold cherry-red color. The deluxe furniture guard is a generous wide black band that is attached across the front of the base. The guard is thick and protects baseboards and furniture from scratches. The tool set is included with the vacuum cleaner and stores nicely on the unit for easy access. In addition to the on-board tool kit, a powered pet hair removal tool is included and also stores on the handle. The powerful 12 amp vacuum motor and 15" widepath cleaning combined with the tool kit make this quite a good find at this price point. For the money, this is a fully featured vacuum cleaner with a lot of suction and a well-thought out design.

Hepa

The Hoover Elite Rewind is equipped with a powered pet hair tool that is really effective on pet hair, especially when it is compared to the equivalent Eureka Vacuum Cleaner. This machine is a better-made unit than those produced by Eureka, particularly Eureka's 4D Pet Fresh vacuum. The Hoover far surpasses the amount of suction provided to the attachment tools, including the pet hair tool, resulting in more hair, dander and other debris ending up in the dirt cup. The nice thing about this particular model of Hoover is that it also has a deluxe hose for 9' of extended reach cleaning. The extra hose length is wonderful for cleaning wall and ceiling fixtures, baseboards, under furniture and on stairs.

The only feature that is really lacking on the Hoover Elite Rewind is self-propulsion, which is a nice thing to have on heavier vacuum cleaners. At around 17 lbs, this machine isn't overly heavy, but it weighs enough that self-propulsion would make a difference if the operator had large amounts of carpeting to cover on a regular basis. One great thing about this unit that does save the operator time is the automatic rewind of the power cord, which does tend to be quite aggressive. It is recommended that caution be used while the cord rewinds due the rapid retreat of the power cord and the prongs at the end on the plug. Without care, it is possible to get walloped by the fast moving plug.

With a HEPA filter, 24' retractable cord, 9'deluxe stretch hose, powered pet hair tool, 15" widepath cleaning, bagless design and other helpful features, the Hoover Elite Rewind is a good value vacuum cleaner at a decent price. The 1-year warranty included with this Hoover unit and the fact that the machine has a washable filter and requires no bags makes this a really good deal for someone in the market for a new vacuum cleaner.
